Dale Evans aka Marilee

When I was seven I got a Dale Evans' outfit and a Roy Rogers' doll. I still have part of the Dale Evans' costume, but all else is lost. On Saturdays, my sister, my cousins and I would go to the Queen Theatre in St Stephen to the Matinee. Most often the main feature would be a cowboy movie; Durango Kid, The Lone Ranger, Gene Autry and my favourite Roy Rogers! I loved Roy and his beautiful Palomino horse, Trigger. Dale Evans was the only cowgirl we ever saw on the big screen. How I wanted to be her. To be married to Roy Rogers and riding beside him on my pinto pony named Buttermilk.
Roy was handsome, kind and fearless. And he sang. Sometimes he sang with his cowpokes " The Sons of the Pioneers" and sometimes he'd sing a duet with Dale. At the end of every movie to the tune of "Happy Trails" Trigger would rear up on his hind legs, Roy would wave his cowboy hat and ride off into the sunset....
I found this quote while I was searching for the name of Dale Evans' horse. I like to think I emulate the cowgirl spirit...

" 'Cowgirl' is an attitude really. A pioneer spirit, a special American brand of courage. The cowgirl faces life head-on, lives by her own lights, and makes no excuses. Cowgirls take stands; they speak up. They defend things they hold dear." Dale Evans

Oh, Marilee - I love this pic of you, missing those teeth. BTW, I think I know what happened to your cowgirl outfit - When I was about 3 or 4, wandering around the Four Corners with my brothers, we found a cowgirl outfit and thought we really had found a great treasure. I know you didn't live at Four Corners, but Uncle Roy and Grammie lived close to it. Your posts are great - they bring back memories - liked the pic of you and Uncle Mike as well. Was this cottage Young's (the one your mom rented in later years?) I remember going to a cottage with your Mom one summer day, but I think it belonged to the Gayton's and was down Hill Rd.

Well... I don't know anything about the outfits you talked about but you look really nice in it:)
You have a nice blog and readable posts with very impressive collection of photos. I tried to look for the link to 'older posts' at the bottom of the homepage but couldn't find it. Looks like you have disables some features of your blog and you are happy with this archaic blogger feel. I like it too.

I love reading your stories, I had a cowgirl dress and hat too. Used to get a cowgirl hat with candy in it at Easter time. Wow, not to dated, right! I have family in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and can see your island from Cape Breton when I visit! How cool is that???
